Your handwriting font in Google Docs

Google Docs only offers fonts from its own library. There is no way to upload a TTF, so your handwriting font cannot be selected in Docs. The workarounds below get your handwriting into a Google document anyway.

Workaround 1: paste as an image

  1. Type the text in Word, Pages, or Procreate using your font.
  2. Take a screenshot or export a PNG.
  3. Insert it into the Google Doc as an image.

Workaround 2: write it in Word, share as PDF

  1. Write the document in Word with your font.
  2. Export as PDF; the font is baked in.
  3. Upload the PDF to Google Drive and share that instead.

Workaround 3: Google Slides or Drawings, still an image

  1. Slides and Drawings have the same font library as Docs.
  2. Add your text as an image there too, then insert the drawing into Docs.

Good to know

  • Docs' Add fonts button opens the Google Fonts catalogue, not a file picker. That is the whole font system.
  • The image route loses editability, so keep the source document.

Can I add my own font to Google Docs at all?
No. Google Docs supports only Google Fonts. Any guide claiming to upload a TTF to Docs is describing a browser extension that changes what you see, not what others see.
Does Google Docs on iPhone see installed fonts?
No. The Docs app uses the same online font list on every platform.
